Lawrence Grayson Announces Candidacy to Represent Ward 8: A Voice for Redemption, A Champion for Change

Washington, D.C. – 02/24/2025 – Successful businessman and lifelong community advocate Lawrence Grayson has officially announced his candidacy to represent Ward 8, bringing a bold vision for redemption, economic opportunity, and real solutions to the people of Southeast D.C.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., and a proud Cardozo High School graduate, Grayson knows firsthand the struggles facing Ward 8—poverty, homelessness, and lack of opportunity. But he also knows that with the right leadership, real change is possible.

“Twenty years ago, I made mistakes, but I refused to let my past define me. I rebuilt my life, dedicated myself to my community, and now I’m fighting to make sure others get the second chances they deserve,” said Grayson. “Ward 8 doesn’t need politicians who talk about change from a distance—we need leaders who have lived through the challenges, understand the fight, and will work tirelessly to uplift our people. I am that leader.”

With a platform focused on criminal justice reform, economic opportunity, public safety, youth development, and affordable housing, Grayson’s campaign prioritizes policies that directly improve the lives of Ward 8 residents.

Key Policy Priorities:

✅ Second Chances & Criminal Justice Reform – Expanding re-entry programs, pushing for record expungement, and launching the “Ward 8 Second Chance Hiring Program.”

✅ Economic Growth & Small Business Support – Creating the “Ward 8 Entrepreneur Fund” to support local businesses and advocating for higher wages and workforce training.

✅ Public Safety Through Community Investment – Funding violence prevention programs, increasing mental health support, and strengthening police-community relationships.

✅ Education & Youth Empowerment – Expanding vocational training, investing in after-school programs, and launching a “Youth Jobs Pipeline” for high school students.

✅ Affordable Housing & Community Development – Fighting displacement, prioritizing housing access for Ward 8 residents, and supporting homeownership programs.
